Contents Description:
Rebecca Walpole Garner left her home in Rutherford County, Tennessee, in 1851 to make a 700-mile journey to Blossom Prairie near the Red River in Northeast Texas. She rode in an ox-drawn covered wagon and with her were six fatherless children. They traveled over some of the worst roads or trails known to exist in this country at that time. One was appropriately known as "The Devil's Backbone." They were aware of the hazards of such a journey, but Rebecca had a dream of a new life, land to farm, and a log cabin on Blossom Prairie. - from the inside flap
